Be part of the audience

Audience and choir from above

Since emerging from the dark days of lockdown EGCS has steadily grown its audiences, both in our regular concert venue (St Swithun’s Church) and at Chequer Mead. It has been our ambition to provide high-quality concerts with professional soloists and instrumentalists, but at accessible prices.

If you are already one of our “audience regulars”, thank you for your support; if you have not yet experienced one of our concerts, please consider doing so and spreading the word to your friends.

Please visit the Events page for details of our upcoming concerts, or sign up to our Mailing List to be kept informed about future events.

Volunteer to help at concerts/other events

EGCS would not exist without the help and support of its volunteers. All officers of the choir – Trustees and Committee members – work on a voluntary basis to enable the choir to rehearse and then present high-calibre concerts at accessible prices in the local community. This help extends to the support provided by members’ friends and family, particularly on concert days; without these helpers we would not be able to run a bar, organise Front of House, erect and dismantle staging efficiently, utilise social media platforms for much-needed publicity and have access to high-quality photos and video recordings of our performances.

We always welcome more help, so, if you feel you are able to commit – or you know someone who might be able to – please get in touch with us.

Become a Friend of EGCS

We set up this sponsorship scheme in May 2023 and the generosity of the Friends has helped us to engage professional soloists and instrumentalists of the highest calibre by boosting the income we receive from choir subscriptions. Coupled with our enthusiasm for singing great music, these musicians have helped to ensure that our audiences have enjoyed dynamic performances of some wonderful works.

Our sponsorship scheme has two main aims. Firstly, we would like to continue to be able to present first-rate concerts at reasonable prices (including free tickets for under 18s) in order to bring live music to a wide audience. As you might know, we include a local children’s choir in some events and in this way, we help to inspire future generations of musicians and share the joy of singing and music-making with people of all ages.

Our second aim is to fulfil our responsibility as a charity to provide musical education to singers who have had no formal classical music training and to give them the confidence to join us on our musical journey and experience the immense joy of singing great music with others. We envisage to start offering note-reading sessions as well as classes on basic singing technique, open to all. Funding and volunteer support will be crucial for this initiative and we hope that this ambition will strike a chord with current and potential sponsors, encouraging them to support us as we further engage with our community.

We hope that you will consider supporting us regularly through our Friends of EGCS scheme. This can be either monthly or annually by standing order, or a one-off donation. As a small thank you, Friends are entitled to a complimentary drink at concerts with an EGCS-run bar. Choir members are also welcome to become a Friend.

If you, or your friends, would like to know more about our sponsorship scheme, please enquire at friends.egcs@outlook.com. An application form is available HERE.  Alternatively, please pick up a form at a rehearsal and return it to Penny Austin.
