You will all be asked again this year to take 4 books and sell them either to your friends or buy them yourself. A covering letter comes with the tickets you are given to explain how it works. The members of the Rotary Club work very hard to support local charities and we get all the money back from our ticket sales, usually with a bonus.

Please do your best to sell your £10.00’s worth!! Thank you.

QUICK NOTES FOR OCTOBER 2011

IMPORTANT MESSAGE REGARDING AGM AND SUBSCRIPTIONS

The Trustees have met and are in full agreement that the AGM was held correctly and in full accordance with the Society’s Constitution. However, in order to make the system easier for members to understand, a statement will be released in the summer term which gives more clarity on how the committee members and trustees will be nominated, appointed or elected where appropriate.

With regard to the increase in subscriptions the trustees were also fully agreed that the decision to raise subscriptions without prior consultation of the membership was a necessary and fully justified decision, taking into account the on-going rise in the running costs including the purchase of a piano, rehearsal venues, music hire and professional fees. The trustees regret any ill feeling that may have been caused to some members over the above issues which was completely unintentional.”

EGCS RAMBLE

Alistair Matson has arranged the date of the next society ramble to be on SUNDAY, 16th OCTOBER commencing at 1.30p.m from the Haywagon Inn in Hartfield. It is about 5 miles through pleasant countryside and those who wish can book a meal at the Inn for 5p.m. Please contact Alistair for further details or to sign up for the ramble.

We have Neil Jenkins singing Elijah (Tenor) with Lesley-Jane Rogers (Soprano); Ginny Stone (Mezzo) and Michael Bundy(Bass).

REHEARSAL ON 29TH

                                QUICK NOTES FOR SEPTEMBER 2011

 WELCOME BACK

Welcome back to everyone as we start our Diamond Jubilee Year. EGCS was founded in 1952

so we are hoping to make this a memorable Jubilee Year. As you know 2012 is our Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee and it is also the year that the Olympics come to London.

Welcome also to the Jubilee Community Centre which is our base for this coming year.

You have all received the list of rehearsal dates and concerts so please do make a note of them now so that you can take as full a part as possible in the Society’s programme.

THURDAY, 8TH SEPTEMBER

Our second week of rehearsal is an ‘Open Evening’ to welcome new members and for those who are interested in finding out what we do.

Please bring along a friend and spread the news. Guests will receive a free glass of wine.

THURSDAY, 15TH SEPTEMBER

The first part of the evening is a normal rehearsal and at 9.00pm following the break, it will be our 59th AGM.  Do make sure you are there to hear what has happened over the past 2010/2011 season and to learn about our plans for the Diamond Jubilee. The minutes of last year’s AGM are on the web (www.egcs.co.uk) but there will be a few paper copies available during the evening.

We are looking for more volunteers this year so if you feel you could spare some time to support EGCS please let Helen know. The vacant posts include a Business Manager/Fundraiser; Social Secretary and a rep for Making Music.

SUBSCRIPTIONS

Details of the arrangements for paying your subscriptions have been sent out to you, either by post or email. Subs are due during the first four weeks of September. Please pay promptly. Thank you.

CHOIR SURVEY

Thank you to those who have completed the survey. If you have not seen a copy they are available tonight and Carolyn Ponder is hoping to co-ordinate the results in the next few weeks and then report back to the members. This can also be downloaded from the web.

Please make a note of the date and bring a party to celebrate 60 years of music and fun.

More details later…..!

FUND RAISING IDEAS

The Trustees and Committee are looking for interesting Fund Raising/Social Event ideas to raise funds to offset costs such as the entertainment for our Dinner/Dance.

If you have any ideas please tell any of the Trustees or Committee and they will be carried forward. We have had a suggestion of an Auction of Promises. Are there any more unusual ideas?

50 CLUB

An easy way to support the society is by becoming a member of the “50 Club”. Cash prizes can be won at the end of every half term. Anne White (alto rep) is the organiser of the Club. Please ask her for details.

‘BRING AND BUY STALL’ AND ‘WEEKLY RAFFLE’

These are run at most rehearsals. Prizes are always needed for the Raffle and more gifts for the Bring and Buy Stall are gratefully received!
