East Grinstead Choral Society

Welcome to the EGCS website

The East Grinstead Choral Society was founded in 1952 and is one of the best established choral groups in the area, offering workshops and vocal coaching opportunities to members. Its first ever rehearsal was on 10th October 1952 in Imberhorne Lower School, with the first concert being performed later in the year. In a busy Golden Jubilee season the society took part in the 2003 Mid Sussex Music and Arts Festival and hosted a visit by the Coral Cypsella Del Centre Excursionasta Montclar and Chamber Music Orchestra of St Feliu, Spain. The society is affiliated to the East Grinstead Adult Education centre and with Making Music. Financial support has been received from the Town Council and SouthEast Arts. The society relies on fund raising efforts and events organised by its members, and also has an active social programme including concert tours to Europe. 2006-2007 was a successful and varied season with a programme that included works by Bach, Haydn, Vivaldi, and Handel. In October 2007 we have a concert tour to Austria and will be performing in Kufstein and Schwarz. Schwarz is twinned with East Grinstead.

New Members

We are always delighted to welcome new singers with or without sight reading skills. No audition is required to join the choir and you will find yourself among a friendly group of dedicated music makers. We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 7.45 - 9.45pm in term time, although we are encouraged to arrive by 7.30pm so that the rehearsal can start promptly. Most rehearsals are held at Imberhorne Lower School, Windmill Lane, East Grinstead, although alternative venues are used occasionally. There is even time for a short refreshment break during the evening when members can also take part in our weekly raffle, check out the Bring and Buy stall and sign up for the numerous social events that take place during the year. These include walks, workshops, social evenings and European Concert Tours.
